"In the fall of 2009, we created the Computer Club and the Computers for Student Success program. I asked faculty and staff to bring in their old computers, and that’s how we got started. On Dec. 10, 2009, we gave away our first five computers. In our first year, we wound up giving away 200.

Gradually, businesses started giving us computers, including businesses where current and former students had found jobs.

One of my students worked at Sentara. She went back to Sentara and made it possible for us to get computers from them – that was the start of a relationship that has continued and allowed us to move to another level.

With the help of Sentara, we began to get enough computers to so that we could reach out to the entire TCC student population of about 47,000 – instead of just the Virginia Beach campus.

We serve TCC students, primarily, but help other groups, too.

TCC Computer Club Named 2012 ComputerWord Honors Laurate

For more than two decades, the Computer world Honors Program has recognized individuals and organizations that create and use information technology to promote and advance public welfare, contribute to the greater good of society and change the world for the better. This was an especially competitive year in selecting the prestigious honors."

Sentara Partner's with TCC

“I was really excited when I heard that I was getting a computer,” says Smith. “I’m very grateful. It will make a big difference to have a computer at home.”

TCC Gives the Gift of Technology

The Computer Club of Tidewater Community College in Virginia Beach contacted Suburban Park Elementary School to share a special idea to help families in need of computer technology.  The Computer Club of TCC rebuilt and donated three computers and distributed them to three families this past holiday season.
